Russian-Egyptian naval exercise set for Mediterranean deployment
The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has announced a forthcoming naval exercise in the Mediterranean Sea involving Russian and Egyptian ships.
Scheduled manoeuvres will include Russia's Pacific Fleet warships — the missile cruiser Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov — which arrived at Egypt's Alexandria port on June 14.
Egypt will be participating with its own vessel, the ENS Al-Qadeer frigate.
The exercise, planned in the "PASSEX" format, aims to enhance joint manoeuvring capabilities, practice communication protocols, and conduct inspection exercises.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, this visit of Russian warships to Alexandria represents a significant step forward in strengthening naval cooperation between Russia and Egypt.
