Russian missile attack kills four people, wounds at least 92 - Zelenskyy
As a result of the Russian missile attack on January 2, four people were killed and there is information about 92 wounded, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his Telegram channel on January 2.
"Currently, liquidation of the consequences of another Russian strike is underway. All necessary services are involved. More than 500 rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, utilities, energy, police. Kyiv and the region, Kharkiv. Currently, 92 wounded are known. Help is being provided to everyone. Unfortunately, four people died," Interfax-Ukraine quotes him as saying.
According to him, "since December 31, Russian monsters have already used about 170 suicide bombers and dozens of missiles of various types. The absolute majority of them were aimed at civilian targets. I thank all partners who are helping to strengthen our air shield."
"This year we will continue to work with everyone in the world who values life to further strengthen our air shield and hold Russia accountable for what it has done. A terrorist state must feel the consequences of what it does," Zelenskyy said.
In a separate report, the news agency says that the air defense forces and means in Kyiv, according to preliminary information, destroyed more than 60 Kh-101/Kh555Kh-55 cruise missiles, as well as more than ten Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles; in addition, over 15 Shahed-type UAVs were destroyed, Head of Kyiv City Military Administration Serhiy Popko said.
"The air raid lasted almost six hours in total. First, the enemy launched about a dozen loitering munitions of the Shahed type at the capital of Ukraine. And after them, more than a dozen Tu-95MS strategic bombers launched X-101/X555X-55 cruise missiles in groups and waves simultaneously with the missiles landing on Kyiv, more than ten MiG-31K aircraft launched Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles at the capital," he said on the Telegram channel on January 2.
"The forces and means of air defense hit all the Shahed UAVs and more than six dozen Kh-101/Kh555Kh-55 missiles and a dozen Kh-47M2 Kinzhals," the administration said, but the type and number of enemy targets destroyed will finally be determined in Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Similarly, in Solomiansky district of Kyiv, the number of victims of a missile attack has increased to 20 people, while 19 of them were hospitalized, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.
"In the building in Solomiansky district, rescuers released 17 people. Some 117 residents were taken out of the building. At the moment, 20 people were injured, while 19 of them were hospitalized by doctors," Klitschko said in his Telegram channel.
The mayor said "there is a fire and heavy smoke in the building. All services are working on site."
Previously, 16 casualties were reported.
