Thai air force launches retaliatory strikes on Cambodian military positions

25 July 2025 14:33

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) conducted two waves of precision airstrikes on Cambodian military positions near the contentious border areas of Preah Vihear Temple, Ta Muen Thom, and Phu Makua on July 25, in response to alleged Cambodian attacks on Thai civilian infrastructure, including homes and hospitals.

According to military sources, the strikes were carried out under a Battlefield Air Interdiction (BAI) operation—a strategic tactic aimed at disrupting enemy forces beyond the immediate front line but within the broader combat zone, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

Shortly after midday, four F-16 fighter jets were deployed in the first wave, targeting two Cambodian military installations believed to be the origin of recent artillery fire on Thai territory. The operation was deemed a success, and all aircraft returned safely to base.

Later in the afternoon, a second wave involving two additional F-16s targeted two more Cambodian positions. According to RTAF officials, the strikes were executed with precision and accuracy, with all aircraft once again returning without incident.

The airstrikes specifically focused on Preah Vihear, Temple (Khao Phra Wihan), Ta Muen Thom, Phu Makua.

These locations were identified as launch points for recent Cambodian offensives that reportedly inflicted damage on Thai civilian areas along the border.

The Thai Air Force emphasized that these actions were a tactical response to inhumane use of force by Cambodia.

Battlefield Air Interdiction (BAI) is a tactical air campaign designed to disrupt enemy movements and logistics before they reach the active combat zone. By targeting forces beyond the range of friendly artillery but still within the broader battlefield, BAI aims to reduce the enemy's capacity to launch or sustain offensive operations.
