Russian official labels Kursk, Bryansk attacks devastating tragedy
Spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has condemned the recent events in Kursk and Bryansk regions, calling them a tragedy.
Zakharova denounced what she described as Ukraine’s “ghoulish joy” following recent incidents, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Speaking to reporters, Zakharova called Ukraine's reaction “shocking” and said it reflects a deeper ideological problem.
"A tragedy has occurred, and Russian law enforcement agencies are carrying out all necessary investigative procedures. As for the international dimension, I continue to be struck by Ukraine’s reaction, which, in my view, reveals the very deep-seated bitterness that the special military operation seeks to overcome," said the diplomat. "Just look at the gloating, the infernal joy—not only from political and public figures, but also from those who appear to have been infected by this ideology."
Zakharova noted that on June 1 — International Children’s Day — “all decent people, regardless of their circumstances or where they are, either express sympathy or try to offer help.” She added, “Here we are again, witnessing another disturbing example of dehumanization — of people being transformed into something unrecognizable by this neo-Nazi ideology.”
The remarks came in the aftermath of an incident in the Zheleznogorsk district of Russia’s Kursk region in the early hours of June 1, 2025. At around 3:00 a.m. (GMT+3), a railway bridge was reportedly blown up, causing a freight train to derail and fall onto a nearby road. The train’s engineer and two assistants were injured in the incident.
At 11:00 (GMT+3) on May 31, a road bridge in the Bryansk region was blown up, causing it to collapse onto a passenger train traveling between the Vygonichi and Pilshino railway stations. The attack resulted in seven fatalities and left 66 people injured, including children.
