Russian security chief warns Armenia against seeking security outside CSTO
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu has criticised Armenia’s leadership for seeking security support outside the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, saying the decision would carry consequences for the country’s future.
Speaking at a meeting of the CSTO Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils on May 26, Shoigu said it was regrettable that Yerevan was looking for protection from what he described as a “direct source of threat," Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“There are many problems, and they can be resolved far more effectively together. It is regrettable that our Armenian partners in the organisation do not understand this and are seeking protection from the direct source of the threat,” Shoigu said.
He added that the course chosen by Yerevan was “the choice of Armenia’s leadership and its responsibility for the future of their country and people”.
