Russian “Shahed” drones, missiles strike western Ukraine overnight PHOTO
During the night of July 12, Russian forces launched a series of attacks against western Ukraine using strike drones known as “Shahed” and cruise missiles.
The assault targeted multiple cities across the region, causing casualties and significant damage, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the Air Forces as well as statements from mayors and heads of local regional military administrations (OVAs).
The “Shaheds” moved chaotically across Ukraine before targeting western cities. In addition, missiles were launched from Russian tactical aviation.
Ruslan Zaparanyuk, head of the Chernivtsi OVA, reported that during the night, four “Shaheds” and one missile were launched at the region.
In Chernivtsi, a 26-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man died as a result of the attack. Four more people were seriously injured. Ten people sustained minor injuries.
Several residential buildings, shops, administrative buildings, and cars were damaged in Chernivtsi. The Storozhynets community was also affected. There, while intercepting a “Shahed,” a residential house and a car were damaged.
Lviv experienced a large-scale attack last night involving both “Shaheds” and missiles. Maxim Kozytsky, head of the Lviv OVA, reported that a two-story building was damaged. The attack resulted in partial destruction of the entrance area, causing gas and water leaks.
“After the enemy’s night attack in Lviv, four people sought medical help on different streets. Three received aid on the spot, and one man was hospitalised,” he said.
According to Kozytsky, residential buildings on Metropolitan Andrey Street and Yelena Stepanovna Street in Lviv were damaged.
“There is partial destruction of facades, broken windows and doors. There was no fire. Two industrial facilities in the city were also damaged, where fires broke out. Firefighters were involved in handling the aftermath,” he added.
