Russian travelers told to avoid animal contact overseas
03 February 2026 20:36
Russian travelers have been urged to avoid contact with animals while abroad in order to reduce the risk of contracting monkeypox, the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) confirmed.
Issuing the guidance via its official Telegram channel, the agency emphasized that special caution should be exercised around species most likely to carry the virus, specifically rodents and primates.
“Infection can occur through contact with damaged skin of an infected person or with objects contaminated by the biological fluids of a sick individual,” Rospotrebnadzor warned, highlighting the importance of vigilance during international travel.
