Rutte: NATO not involved in Iran war, but providing support
NATO allies are not involved in the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran but are "providing key enabling support," the Alliance's Secretary General Mark Rutte said.
"What we see here is that NATO, in that sense, is also this power projection platform for the United States, because without European allies, the U.S. would have found it very difficult to launch this campaign against Iran," Reuters reports.
But other than that, NATO is not directly involved, he said.
"So, but from my conversations with senior American military and political leaders, it's my absolute sense that they know what they are doing."
Despite the situation in Iran, NATO allies will keep supporting Ukraine, he said.
"Many leaders in Europe and the United States, Canada say it has to be 'and, and': make sure that as allies we enable what the Americans are doing in the Middle East ... and at the same time make sure that Ukraine has what it needs to stay strong in the fight", he said.
