Sakurajima Volcano erupts in Kagoshima, Japan

An eruption of the Sakurajima volcano occurred in Japan’s Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyushu.

A report by the Japan Meteorological Agency states the explosive eruption took place at 00:57 local time, Caliber.Az reports.

The volcano ejected ash up to 4.4 kilometres high. No pyroclastic flows have been reported. The area around the volcano remains at Alert Level 3, which prohibits climbing.

Warnings of possible volcanic ashfall have been issued for Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures. There are no reports of casualties or damage.
