Samsung to supply batteries for electric Mercedes-Benz vehicles

20 April 2026 23:01

South Korean company Samsung SDI has signed a long-term agreement with German automaker Mercedes-Benz Group AG to supply batteries for next-generation electric vehicles, Yonhap reports.

The signing ceremony took place in Seoul with the participation of the leadership of both companies. This is the first contract between Samsung SDI and Mercedes-Benz for the supply of batteries for electric vehicles.

Under the agreement, Samsung SDI will supply high-energy-density batteries based on nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) technology. These batteries offer extended driving range, longer service life, and increased power output, and are also equipped with the company’s proprietary safety systems.

The batteries will be used in future compact and mid-size electric SUVs and coupes from Mercedes-Benz as part of its strategy to expand its electric vehicle lineup.

The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in the field of future mobility technologies and next-generation battery development.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz held talks with other South Korean suppliers, including LG Energy Solution, regarding further cooperation in electrification and digital technologies.
