Saudi ACWA Power to build $260 million hazardous waste facility in Uzbekistan

27 July 2026 13:36

Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power will invest $260 million in the construction of a hazardous industrial waste management complex in Uzbekistan, as the two sides seek to deepen cooperation on environmental protection and climate resilience.

The project was discussed during a meeting between Aziz Abdukhakimov, chairman of Uzbekistan's National Committee for Ecology, and Mohammad Abunayyan, chairman of ACWA Power, Caliber.Az reports via Uzbek media.

The talks focused on accelerating the implementation of the waste management project, which is expected to strengthen Uzbekistan's capacity to safely handle hazardous industrial waste.

The two sides also explored cooperation on establishing a national monitoring and early warning system for sand and dust storms in Uzbekistan.

The proposed initiative envisages the development of joint forecasting models and the creation of a data-sharing framework between the relevant institutions of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia to improve preparedness for environmental hazards.
