Saudi Arabia supports Azerbaijan’s tourism initiatives with business seminars
From September 15 to 19, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, operating under the State Tourism Agency, hosted a series of events in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, Medina, Dammam, and Riyadh.
Business-to-business (B2B) seminars were held in each city as part of the programme, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), the Shahdag Tourism Centre, and other representatives from the local tourism sector also showcased special tourism offers.
Local travel agencies were briefed on Azerbaijan’s tourism potential.
Meanwhile, in 2023, Azerbaijan welcomed over 2 million visitors from 187 countries, marking a significant 30.2% rise compared to the previous year. This growth highlights the country's dedication to enhancing international connections and showcasing its rich cultural and natural heritage.
Azerbaijan's tourism appeal is broad, offering a unique blend of cultural, historical, natural, and culinary experiences. Ancient cities such as Baku, Sheki, and Ganja feature historical landmarks, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Baku’s Old City (Icherisheher), the Maiden Tower, and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs.
With diverse landscapes ranging from the Caspian Sea coastline to the Greater Caucasus Mountains, lush forests, and semi-desert areas, nature lovers are drawn to attractions like Gobustan National Park with its ancient petroglyphs and the scenic mountain village of Khinalug.
Azerbaijan is also renowned for its mineral springs and therapeutic spas, particularly in Naftalan and Ganja, making it a prime destination for wellness tourism. The mountainous regions provide opportunities for outdoor adventures, including hiking, mountaineering, and skiing, with Shahdag Mountain Resort being a popular choice for winter sports.
Azerbaijani cuisine, with its rich flavours and cultural influences, is another draw for visitors. Traditional dishes such as dolma, plov, and kebabs, alongside local markets and tea houses, offer a true taste of the region's culinary heritage.
