Saudi Arabia unveils ambitious film hub with JAX Film Studios in Riyadh

Set to be one of the region's premier production facilities, this cutting-edge complex is a key piece in the Kingdom’s strategy to establish itself as a global cinema powerhouse under Vision 2030.

This move is a significant step in Saudi Arabia’s ambition to develop a competitive and interconnected film and media industry. The new facility, set to be completed later this year, spans over 7,000 square meters and is expected to become one of the leading film and media production hubs in the region. 

JAX Film Studios boasts a range of advanced features designed to support both local and international filmmakers. Key components of the complex include: Two soundstages, each covering 1,500 square meters A virtual production stage powered by Sony’s latest screen technology A private cinema, production prep areas, meeting rooms, dining spaces, and a VIP lounge The studio’s strategic location offers easy access to hotels, Riyadh’s international airport, restaurants, and a growing network of industry professionals.

Local filmmakers will benefit from the proximity to crews, equipment, and post-production services, all within a 20-minute radius. “JAX Film Studios represents a key milestone in our strategy to build a world-class cinema ecosystem in Saudi Arabia,” said Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of the Film Commission. The facility aims to foster the development of Saudi talent while attracting international filmmakers, with the goal of aligning with global production standards. Abdul Jalil Al Nasser, Director General of Sector Development and Investment Attraction, emphasized that the studio will feature one of the most advanced virtual production platforms in the world, offering filmmakers cutting-edge creative options.

JAX Film Studios is central to the Film Commission’s broader strategy, which includes: Developing national cinematic infrastructure Investing in local talent Establishing international partnerships These efforts are aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a global leader in film and media. The announcement was made at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, where the Saudi pavilion attracted significant interest from international filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals.
