Scholz sends daily messages of support to Macron after election setback
Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, has been regularly sending supportive messages to French President Emmanuel Macron following the defeat of Macron's coalition in the initial round of French parliamentary elections.
Scholz expressed his sentiments during an unofficial summer congress of Germany's Social Democratic Party, Caliber.Az reports via German media.
He mentioned that these messages take the form of daily text exchanges.
The media notes that while Germany's leadership should not interfere in the electoral process in other countries, the chancellor has taken a clear stance on the French election.
"I am keeping my fingers crossed that the French people, whom I love and appreciate so much, succeed in preventing the emergence of a government led by a right-wing populist party," Scholz said, referring to Marine Le Pen's Rassemblement Nationale.
