Scientists confirm powerful solar flare from active sunspot
27 July 2026 11:34
A Class M1.0 solar flare was recorded on the Sun on the morning of July 27, TASS reports, citing Russia’s Institute of Applied Geophysics.
The flare was detected at 06:43 Baku time in the X-ray range within sunspot group 4494 (S04W03). It lasted 16 minutes.
Solar flares are classified into five categories based on the intensity of their X-ray emissions: A, B, C, M and X. Each successive class represents a tenfold increase in energy output.
Such events are typically accompanied by coronal plasma ejections. If directed toward Earth, they can trigger geomagnetic storms.
