SDF urges decentralised Syria amid US push for unity
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have responded to the proposal made by U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria, Thomas Barak, regarding the creation of "one country, one nation, one army" for Syria.
In his remarks, Barak stated: “The SDF is YPG and the PKK. We are not obligated to grant them the right to form an independent state,” Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Following this, the SDF administration released a statement saying: “Today, we aspire to become true partners in building a new Syria — a decentralised state that embraces all its citizens and guarantees equal rights for everyone.”
The statement also included a call for drafting a new constitution that secures the rights of all communities.
While assessing developments in the Middle East and the disarmament process of the PKK, Barak further remarked: “We are not obliged to grant them the right to establish their own independent administration within the state. My duty to them is to provide a path for a reasonable transition to a new administration.”
