Security operation in Iraq's Erbil targets illegal SIM cards
Authorities in the Erbil Governorate in Iraq have launched a large-scale campaign targeting unregistered SIM cards, resulting in the seizure of 1,685 illegal cards and the closure of 17 mobile phone shops, according to al-Ahad.
The operation was carried out by a special committee led by the director of internal affairs and included representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as traffic and municipal police.
In an official statement, the governorate said the campaign aims to enforce existing laws and strengthen the regulation of the telecommunications sector.
Authorities added that inspections will continue as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and prevent illegal commercial activities.
