Senior Iranian clerics reject talks with US over Hormuz
01 May 2026 17:07
Senior clerics in Iran have declared that the Strait of Hormuz is not subject to negotiation and cautioned against engaging in talks with the United States.
Speaking on Friday, May 1, Mohammad Javad Haj Ali Akbari said that “the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are no longer negotiable,” adding that Iran would pursue a new legal framework in coordination with Oman.
In separate remarks, Ahmad Alamolhoda, the Friday Prayer Imam of Mashhad, warned against dialogue with Washington, stating that “Negotiating with America means surrender.” He added that Iran could exercise leverage over the Strait of Hormuz without entering into negotiations.
