Serbia declares Day of Mourning after deadly shooting tragedy in Montenegro
At a meeting attended by President Aleksandar Vucic, the Serbian government has decided to declare January 5 a day of mourning due to the shooting in Montenegro that killed 12 people, including two children.
“The members of the government, at the proposal of the president of the republic, decided to declare Sunday, January 5, a day of mourning in Serbia in connection with the tragedy and killing of 12 people in Cetinje,” the government said, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Vucic asked the Interior Ministry and the Security and Information Agency to “continue checking all persons of security interest, speed up the seizure of illegal weapons, and additionally check legal weapons.”
To recall, 12 people, including two children, were killed and four others seriously injured in the shootings, which began at about 5.30 pm on January 1 in a restaurant located in the village of Bajice near Cetinje in southern Montenegro, and ended when the gunman shot himself in the head.
The shooter, identified as Aleksandar Martinović, 45, turned his weapon on himself after being cornered by police near his home in Cetinje, a small town about 40km (25 miles) west of the Montenegrin capital, Podgorica.
