Serbia foils alleged attack on president Vučić: Suspects detained

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has confirmed the arrest of two individuals suspected of planning an attack on his family, though he said he does not know who is behind the plot.

Vučić stated that authorities have a video recording that appears to confirm the plot, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Initial plans, based on available evidence, reportedly targeted his son first, followed by the president and his wife.

In a joint operation on February 23, officers from Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Criminal Police Directorate, the Anti-Crime Agency, and the Security Intelligence Agency, alongside the local police in the city of Kraljevo, detained two residents: D.R. (born 1975) and M.R. (born 1983).

The arrests were made on suspicion of preparing a criminal act.

Authorities say the suspects intended to acquire weapons to carry out attacks on the president’s family as well as on Ministry of Internal Affairs personnel.

President Vučić has said he is aware of where the suspects are from but has no information regarding who might have orchestrated the plot.
