Serbia’s Vučić arrives in Ukraine for Carpathian Initiative

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić arrived in Ukraine on September 18, to participate in a meeting of the Carpathian Integration Initiative.

Vučić said on social media that he was visiting Ukraine at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The initiative focuses on strengthening economic, transport and infrastructure connectivity among countries across the wider Carpathian region.

“We are doing all this to further ensure stability and peace for our citizens and Serbia,” Vučić said.

He added that Serbia had opportunities to contribute to improving regional transport links, particularly with Romania and Hungary, as well as with Ukraine and Poland.

Vučić said Serbia could contribute significantly to improving transport connectivity with Romania, Hungary, Ukraine and Poland, including through railway and road links, more open borders, and closer cooperation in agriculture and other sectors.

The meeting is being held in Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Romanian President Nicușor Dan is also expected to attend the event.
