Seven persons die in fire at shopping mall in South Korea
Seven persons have died in a fire at a shopping mall in Daejeon, South Korea.
Lee Seung-han, an officer of the Yuseong Fire Department, said that 7 people, including 6 mall employees, were killed in the fire, TRT Haber reports.
Lee stated that the identity of the other person who lost his life is being tried to be determined.
Go Seung-cheol, one of the Daejeon Fire Department officials, stated that a fire broke out on the ground floor of the city's shopping mall at around 7:45 am local time , and that the fire grew in a short time due to the cardboard boxes around.
At least 100 people were evacuated
Noting that firefighters were dispatched to the scene, Go said that at least 100 people in the shopping center and surrounding buildings were evacuated.
Go stated that the fire was extinguished at around 15.00 as a result of the work of more than 500 firefighters.
Stating that the rescue efforts are continuing, Go said that the cause of the fire is being investigated.
The fire started before the mall was opened, preventing a possible disaster.
