Severe flooding in Morocco kills at least 21
At least 21 people have died as a result of flooding in Morocco.
The disaster struck the Safi region on December 14 following heavy rain and thunderstorms, and so far 32 people have been reported injured, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Local authorities in Safi said the death toll from the storms and resulting floods has reached 21.
Earlier reports had put the number of fatalities at 14. The floods swept away dozens of cars and inundated around 70 homes and other buildings.
Water levels decreased by December 14 as rescue personnel continued searching for other possible casualties.
Meanwhile, the weather service predicted more heavy downpours on December 16 across the North African country.
Morocco is experiencing heavy rain and snowfall in the Atlas Mountains after seven consecutive years of severe drought left some of the nation’s major reservoirs parched.
