Severe storm batters Poland’s coast as level-two warnings take effect
Authorities are urging residents of the Pomeranian region and visitors to Poland’s coastline to brace for extremely unfavourable weather conditions.
Gdańsk City Hall has announced a second-level storm warning affecting the eastern section of the coastal area.
According to RMF24, the maritime meteorological office in Szczecin forecasts winds reaching 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts strengthening to force 8. Such conditions are expected to generate high waves and pose significant challenges both offshore and on land.
The warning remains in effect on Saturday, December 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, the period during which the most dangerous conditions are anticipated. Storm-force winds may damage infrastructure, rip roofs from buildings, uproot trees, and disrupt transportation.
Additionally, Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued a second-level hydrological alert for both the western and eastern stretches of the coastline, warning that strong winds could lead to a sudden rise in Baltic Sea water levels.
