Shooting at Houston after-hours bar leaves six wounded, police seeks suspects
The Houston Police Department (HPD) is actively searching for a gunman who injured six people following a shooting at an after-hours club in southwest Houston early March 23 morning.
Assistant Chief James Skelton with HPD confirmed that officers responded to reports of shots fired at Latinas Sports Bar, located in the 6400 block of Hillcroft, at approximately 3 a.m., Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Upon arrival, police found at least six men who had been wounded in the incident. The victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, with at least four of them reported to be in critical condition.
While the exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, HPD officials stated that they are looking for a black Toyota Corolla or Camry, which two Hispanic men were seen driving near the scene. Surveillance video from the area showed people fleeing for cover as gunfire erupted.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between the two men that escalated. One of the suspects was caught on camera firing a weapon toward the entrance of the club, which was supposed to be closed at the time. HPD is actively working to address and shut down after-hours clubs operating in the city.
According to Skelton, the Latinas Sports Bar was found to be serving alcohol past the legal limit of 2 a.m., which is prohibited in Texas unless the establishment has a special late permit.
"Establishments like this within our city contribute to crime, so we are targeting these locations and we will shut them down. It harbors DWI's and assaults, and this is exactly what we saw here tonight," Skelton said.
In a separate incident about an hour later, another shooting occurred at a different after-hours club on the opposite side of town. A man leaving a club along the Gulf Freeway near Bellfort was shot and killed following an argument.
"I don't know specifics of the club at this time, how it operates -- the hours -- but happened at 3:56. So, I think it's an after-hours club," Detective Sharp with HPD said.
The investigation into both incidents is ongoing. HPD has urged anyone with information to come forward as they continue their efforts to resolve the cases.
