Shooting at US New Albany facility leaves one dead, five wounded

05 February 2025 12:09

A shooting at a New Albany warehouse in the US on February 4 night left one person dead and five others wounded.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. (GMT-5) at the KDC/One building located on the 8800 block of Smith's Mill Road North. According to the New Albany Chamber of Commerce, KDC/One produces cosmetics for LBrands stores, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones stated early February 5 morning that the incident appears to have been a "targeted attack." The motive for the shooting has not yet been disclosed, and there was no altercation prior to the incident.

Jones also mentioned that a firearm was recovered at the scene, though he did not specify its type. One suspect has been identified and is alive, but their name has not been released. Authorities do not believe the suspect is still at the New Albany facility, and Jones indicated this person is likely the sole suspect.

The conditions of the five individuals taken to the hospital remain unknown, and the deceased victim was found inside the building. At one point, at least 20 people were escorted from one building to another at the scene. Police Chief Greg Jones mentioned that these individuals, out of an estimated 150 people in the building during the shooting, are safe and have been able to contact their families.

Due to the facility's large size, many people inside were unaware that the shooting had taken place. Law enforcement from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, New Albany and Columbus police, and the Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation all responded to the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact New Albany police at 614-855-1234. Jones also stated that once individuals at the scene speak with detectives, they will be allowed to leave the area.
