Shooting in Pennsylvania kills three police officers, injures two PHOTO

On September 17, three law enforcement officers were killed and two others wounded in a shooting in York County, Pennsylvania, the US, state police confirmed. 

The suspect was also killed during the incident, Caliber.Az reports per American media.

According to Col. Christopher Paris, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, the officers had been serving a warrant in Codorus Township when they came under fire. The warrant was linked to a domestic investigation that began on September 16.

“There are simply no words I can offer to assuage the grief that this community has experienced,” Paris said during a press briefing.

The two surviving officers were transported to WellSpan York Hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was shot and killed by police at the scene.

Images from the aftermath showed one of the wounded officers being airlifted by helicopter for emergency treatment.

The tragedy comes less than seven months after another deadly incident in York County. In February, West York Patrolman Andrew W. Duarte was killed while responding to a hospital siege in which a gunman had taken hostages.

Local and state officials have pledged a full investigation into the September 17 shooting.
