Six university students killed in tragic accident at Chinese ore processing plant
Six students from Northeastern University were killed during a field trip after an accident at a copper-molybdenum ore processing facility in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, state media reported on July 24.
According to Xinhua, the tragedy occurred on July 23 at a plant operated by China National Gold Group, located in the city of Hulunbuir. The students were participating in an educational tour of the facility when a metal grating reportedly gave way, causing them to fall into a flotation tank.
The group’s teacher also sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the severity of the injuries.
Local police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
