Slovak police detain student after school knife attack

Police have detained an eighth-grade student who attacked two teachers and a classmate with a knife in the village of Staškov in north-western Slovakia.

Police are treating the attacker’s actions as a serious criminal offence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Earlier reports said the student stabbed one female student and two teachers, one of whom later died.

According to rescue service spokeswoman Petra Klimešová, “a rescue helicopter transported the child in critical condition to a hospital in the city of Martin, in northern Slovakia”.

Following the incident, “a 44-year-old patient was also transported by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Žilina, in north-western Slovakia. She sustained stab wounds to the chest.”

Another teacher, aged 61, “died from her injuries”, Klimešová added.
