Slovak prime minister: Oil prices depend on “Trump’s sleep”
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has said that, in his view, global oil price dynamics depend on the condition and behaviour of US President Donald Trump.
Speaking in Bratislava, Fico said: “The world is going through difficult times. The world is under pressure from oil prices, which depend on how the US president sleeps. If he has slept well, prices go down. If he has not slept well and makes statements, prices automatically go up.”
He made the remarks against the backdrop of sharp fluctuations in global energy markets following the escalation of tensions in the Middle East. After the start of US and Israeli military operations against Iran on February 28 and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices rose sharply.
On April 30, Brent crude exceeded $126 per barrel, reaching its highest level since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022. The spike reportedly followed media reports suggesting Trump would be briefed on new military plans against Iran.
