Somali pirates seize UAE-flagged tanker Eureka off Yemen coast

Somali pirates have seized the oil tanker *Eureka*, sailing under the flag of the United Arab Emirates, off the coast of Yemen.

The capture took place near Yemen’s Shabwa province, and the vessel is now heading toward Somalia, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The nationality and condition of the crew, as well as the quantity and status of the cargo, remain unknown. Somalia’s maritime security agency has not yet commented on the incident.

In the early 2000s and 2010s, small Somali pirate groups significantly disrupted shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Indian Ocean with the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, allowing them to threaten a key trade route between Asia and Europe.
