Somalia, Azerbaijan share common positions on many international forums Minister’s statement
Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has stated that Somalia and Azerbaijan share common positions on various issues in international forums.
Ahmed Moallim Fiqi made these remarks during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Caliber.Az reports.
“We also discussed issues related to trade, the oil and gas industry, and agriculture, and committed to taking appropriate actions. We explored ways to enhance our diplomatic cooperation. Somalia and Azerbaijan share common positions on many issues within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. We emphasised the importance of pooling resources, sharing expertise, and developing effective strategies to address global challenges that transcend national boundaries. We reaffirmed our commitment to fostering greater harmony and building strong relations," he noted.
Ahmed Moallim Fiqi also highlighted that the Somali government is eager to collaborate with Azerbaijan to achieve the goals of COP29.
To recap, Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.
The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
