South Africa: Eleven killed in Saulsville hostel shooting
At least eleven people have been killed in a mass shooting at a hostel in Saulsville, west of Pretoria, police have confirmed.
One of the victims died in the hospital after being wounded in the attack, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The victims include children aged three and twelve. Fourteen others were injured and have been taken to the hospital, including the owner of the tavern inside the hostel where the shooting occurred.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said at least three unknown gunmen entered the hostel early on December 6 and began shooting indiscriminately.
“In terms of the deceased, the youngest is three years old. We’ve also got a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old, and the eight others that are deceased are adults,” Mathe said.
She added that the motive for the attack remains unclear, but “maximum resources have been deployed to arrest those behind this incident.”
Police investigations are ongoing.
