South Korea, Jordan FMs discuss Middle East crisis, cooperation

06 May 2026 16:15

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a phone call with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Al Safadi on Wednesday, May 6, to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East as well as bilateral relations, Seoul’s foreign ministry told Korean media.

During the conversation, Cho expressed condolences over the damage suffered by Jordan amid the ongoing conflict in the region and voiced hope for a swift restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East, according to the ministry.

For his part, Safadi called for South Korea’s continued support and attention toward efforts aimed at ensuring regional stability. He also expressed hope for expanded bilateral cooperation in post-conflict reconstruction projects.

The call was held at the request of the Jordanian side, the ministry said, adding that both ministers agreed to maintain close communication on related issues.

The conflict, which began in late February following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, has since escalated into a broader regional crisis. Efforts to reach a resolution have stalled, with peace talks between the United States and Iran currently at an impasse.
