South Korean intelligence sees no evidence of North Korean arms transfers to Iran
South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) has reported that there are no signs that North Korea is supplying weapons or other military materials to Iran, according to AP.
The spy agency’s officials briefed lawmakers on April 6, noting that North Korea may be acting cautiously to preserve the possibility of dialogue with the Donald Trump administration, two legislators who attended the closed briefing said.
While North Korea’s Foreign Ministry condemned US and Israeli attacks on Iran as illegal, the NIS indicated that Pyongyang did not issue official condolences following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the late Supreme Leader of Iran.
In recent years, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has promoted the idea of a “new Cold War” and sought to expand cooperation with countries opposing the U.S., including sending an economic delegation to Iran in April 2024.
