Soviet-born General Roman Gofman appointed head of Mossad
02 June 2026 19:07
Roman Gofman, the Israeli military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has been appointed as the new director of Israel’s external intelligence agency Mossad.
The announcement was made by Netanyahu on the social media platform X, where he wrote: “I am proud to appoint Roman Gofman as the next director of Mossad.”
Gofman, a major general in the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), was born in Belarus and emigrated to Israel in 1990 at the age of 14. He went on to serve in the IDF armoured corps, rising through the ranks to command a division.
He was wounded on October 7, 2023, during the Hamas attack on Israeli territory, when he reportedly engaged militants in active combat.
