Spain to increase army personnel for first time in over a decade
The Spanish government is set to increase the size of its military for the first time in more than 10 years.
The government is currently finalizing the details of a royal decree concerning the number of generals, officers, and non-commissioned officers, along with a ministerial order addressing soldiers and sailors, Caliber.Az reports per Spanish media.
These documents are expected to outline an increase of 7,500 soldiers between 2025 - 2029.
In the coming decade, Spanish authorities plan to raise the total number of military personnel by 20,000, bringing the overall force to 140,000. This figure is in line with the limit established by the 2007 Law on Military Career.
This decision comes as part of an effort to expand the military's capabilities to undertake a broader range of tasks, including international missions, the protection of space assets, and civil defence in the event of natural disasters.
