Spanish FM: NATO to have new members

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez said that it is very likely that new members will join NATO.

"We will host [in Madrid in June] a pivotal NATO summit, the strategic concept [of the alliance] will be approved," the minister said in an interview with Radio 4 on Friday. "There will be a firm, unified, convincing response to Russia."

"It's very likely that we will have new members joining NATO," Albarez added, without specifying which states he was talking about.

The next meeting of NATO at the level of heads of state and government will take place on June 28-30 in Madrid. Its participants will adopt a new strategic concept, consider strengthening the alliance and the security implications of global climate change.
