Spanish Foreign Minister: Europe at its most critical moment

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has said that Europe is experiencing the most critical moment after the disappearance of the Berlin Wall.

"We are facing the most critical moment in Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. A context in which a comprehensive OSCE security concept is needed more than ever...," Albares said, TASS reports.

He also pointed to the need to strengthen the OSCE's ties with the Mediterranean and Asian Partners, which play a significant role "in the defense of a rules-based international order".

The Spanish Foreign Minister emphasized the OSCE's key role in bringing often divergent countries together through the rule of consensus. Nevertheless, Albares is concerned about the coming debate on the core issues.

"No matter what, there is an imminent risk of paralysis due to the difficulty of reaching consensus on the main decisions to come, the most important of which are the 2024 Chairmanship, the Unified Budget, and the renewal of top posts," he emphasized.
