Stand gives way at French castle before show, leaving 16 injured

At least 16 people were injured when a grandstand collapsed ahead of a light and sound show at Bienassis Castle in the commune of Erquy in western France.

The incident occurred on August 18, with around 100 people on the grandstand before the start of the historical show dedicated to Anne of Brittany, the Duchess of Brittany and former Queen of France, Caliber.Az reports, citing French media.

Most of the injured were treated at the scene, while five people with more serious injuries were taken to Saint-Brieuc Hospital.

Some 54 firefighters, emergency medical teams and gendarmes were deployed to the scene. The Saint-Brieuc prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
