Starmer responds to Trump’s criticism over Diego Garcia decision

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding London’s decision to block access to the Diego Garcia base for strikes against Iran, according to BBC.

Starmer confirmed that Trump “expressed his disagreement” with the UK government’s refusal to participate in the operation at its initial stage.

“But it is my duty to judge what is in Britain's national interest,” the Prime Minister said, emphasising that he stands by his decision.

He also cited lessons from the Iraq war as shaping London’s current stance. “We all remember the mistakes of Iraq and we have learned those lessons. Any UK actions must always have a lawful basis,” Starmer added.
