Official: WUF13 to mark new stage for Azerbaijan’s urban development
The 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), to be held in Baku from May 17–22, will mark a new stage in Azerbaijan’s urban development, Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, stated.
Speaking at a conference, Muradova said the upcoming forum carries strategic importance for the country, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Against the backdrop of socio-political and post-conflict realities in recent years, urban development is no longer merely an infrastructure issue. First and foremost, it concerns national development, taking into account the interests of the population, ensuring social justice, and security,” she emphasised.
Muradova also highlighted ongoing reconstruction work in the territories restored under Azerbaijan’s control, stating that modern quality standards are being applied.
She said “smart city” and “smart village” concepts are being implemented as part of new Azerbaijani urban management models, positioning the country’s approach as a potential international example.
The 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), organised by UN-Habitat, will be held in Baku from May 17 to 22, bringing together policymakers, urban planners, development experts, and civil society leaders from around the world to discuss sustainable urban development and the future of cities.
