State of emergency declared in Hawaii ahead of Hurricane Kiko
07 September 2025 16:00
A state of emergency has been declared in Hawaii due to the approaching Hurricane Kiko, ABC News reports.
Acting Governor Sylvia Luke said strong winds, heavy rains, and higher waves are expected on Monday, September 8.
Kiko, moving across the Pacific, weakened to a Category 3 hurricane on Saturday, September 6, and is expected to continue weakening over the next two days while moving northwest.
Forecasters predict that Kiko will pass far enough north of Hawaii to weaken to a tropical storm.
Nevertheless, high waves remain the hurricane’s main threat.
