Stellantis to cut vehicle production in Europe by over 800,000 units

21 May 2026 16:48

Automotive group Stellantis has announced plans to reduce production capacity at its European plants by more than 800,000 vehicles by 2030, corresponding to a decline of about 20%, according to a strategic development plan presented by the company.

The measures include the restructuring of several facilities, including the Poissy plant in France, as well as the expansion of partnerships with China’s Leapmotor in Madrid and Zaragoza and Dongfeng in Rennes. The company expects to increase capacity utilisation from the current 60% to 80% by 2030, Caliber.Az reports, citing BFM.

Stellantis said it aims to preserve industrial jobs while prioritising brands such as Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat in its new five-year investment strategy. CEO Antonio Filosa emphasised that the plan is designed to reduce costs and offer more affordable prices following losses recorded in 2025.

Following the announcement, Stellantis shares were temporarily suspended on the stock exchange due to a sharp drop of more than 6%. After trading resumed, the decline stabilised at around 5.6%.
