Strong earthquake hits northwest China

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Haixi Prefecture in northwest China’s Qinghai Province early on August 19, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The earthquake occurred at 5:36 a.m. Beijing time at a depth of 10 kilometres The epicentre was recorded at 37.81 degrees north latitude and 95.63 degrees east longitude, Chinese media reports.

No information on casualties or damage was immediately provided.
