Strong offshore earthquake jolts waters near Papua New Guinea

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea, according to Russian media.
The tremor was recorded in the Solomon Sea, about 151 km east of the coast of New Britain Island and 225 km northwest of the city of Lae on the island of New Guinea.
The shaking at the epicentre was classified as “very strong.”
Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) measured the earthquake at magnitude 5.4 and said its hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometres.
