Strong tremors felt across northern Pakistan after 5.4 quake
A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck parts of Pakistan on June 22, shaking areas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD said the tremor was recorded at 3:22 p.m. at a depth of 215 kilometres with the Hindu Kush region in neighbouring Afghanistan identified as the epicenter. The quake was felt across multiple cities, including Peshawar, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Swat, Multan and surrounding regions, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Local authorities reported no immediate casualties or major damage. A spokesperson for Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said no loss of life or property damage had been reported in the province so far, while urging residents to contact emergency services if needed.
Rescue 1122 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also advised the public to use its emergency helpline in case of incidents related to the earthquake. The PDMA Punjab has similarly activated its helpline for public assistance.
