Strongest earthquake since 2004 hits Germany
An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale was observed in southwestern Germany on September 10, the most powerful earthquake in the country since 2004.
The epicentre of the earthquake was in France, but also affected Germany and Switzerland, European Pravda reports on September 11 with reference to Erdbebennews.
Tremors were felt by residents of some areas in Baden-Württemberg, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria.
Seismologists see no reason for widespread destruction, although some Germans have reported about cracks in the walls.
Aftershocks (tremors following the earthquake) measuring 3.1 were recorded on September 11 morning.
A recent earthquake of this magnitude - 4.9 on the Richter scale in Germany was recorded back in Waldkirch, Baden-Württemberg in 2004.
Then it did not cause big damage, but it was large-scale.
