Super Typhoon Ragasa hits Taiwan, killing over a dozen VIDEO
Super Typhoon Ragasa has pounded the island of Taiwan with torrential rains, killing 14 people and leaving more than 120 missing.
The main impact of the storm hit Taiwan on Tuesday, September 23. In a sparsely populated eastern area of the island, a barrier lake formed by landslides from previous heavy rains overflowed, and a wall of water surged into the town of Guangfu, Caliber.Az reports via British media.
In the village, the floodwaters washed away a large road bridge across the river. The village of Dama, with a population of about 1,000, was flooded, and many residents remain trapped.
“As of 7 am [Wednesday], 14 people are confirmed dead and 18 were reported injured,” said Lee Kuan-ting, a Hualien county government press official.
“Thirty missing was the figure last night, released by the National Fire Agency, and our teams are still searching,” he added.

In Taiwan's Hualien County, 124 people remain missing. Authorities have deployed search and rescue teams and are using helicopters and boats to reach affected areas. Evacuation centres have been set up, and officials have warned residents to stay away from rivers and low-lying areas.
Additionally, the bad weather toppled trees, tore roofs off buildings, and claimed at least two lives as it swept through northern Philippines, where thousands of people sought shelter in schools and evacuation centres.
The Philippine weather bureau has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible landslides in affected northern regions.
