Survey shows only half of Ukrainians see future of their children in Ukraine

09 June 2022 17:05

Only about half of Ukrainians see the future of their children or grandchildren in Ukraine if the war danger persists.

If the war continues, only 42.9 per cent of Ukrainians see the future of their children and grandchildren in Ukraine, Ukraine’s European Pravda reports referring to the research by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from May 3 to 18, 2022 at the CASE Ukraine’s order.

In case of a truce and the postponement of the war, 54.7 per cent of the population does not see the future of their children in Ukraine. After the change of power in Russia to a democratic one, 76.8 per cent of Ukrainians see the future of children in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s joining NATO or more significant security guarantees, and the capitulation and disarmament of Russia approximately have the same influence (85.1 per cent and 84.5 per cent accordingly) on the planning of the future.

Women have slightly higher security requirements than men. In particular, in case of a ceasefire, 57.1 per cent of men see the future of their children or grandchildren in Ukraine compared to 52.7 per cent of women.

As for western Ukraine, there is less connection between danger and planning for the future in Ukraine. For example, if the war continues, 34.8 per cent of residents of eastern Ukraine, 38.8 per cent of residents of southern Ukraine, 44.6 per cent of residents of the central and northern regions, and 48.5 per cent of residents of the western regions see the future of their children and grandchildren in Ukraine.

As for the inhabitants of eastern Ukraine, 4.3 per cent of the inhabitants of the eastern regions, 1.8 per cent of the inhabitants of the southern regions, 1.5 per cent of the inhabitants of the central regions and 1 per cent of the inhabitants of the western regions see the future of children and grandchildren abroad regardless of the developments.
